Waldeinsamkeit is German for woodland solitude, the feeling of being alone in a forest. It joins Wald, forest, and Einsamkeit, loneliness, and Duden, the German dictionary, labels it poetic. The tee prints the word over a small figure among tall trunks, with the line the feeling of being alone in the woods beneath it.

What does waldeinsamkeit mean?
Waldeinsamkeit means woodland solitude, the feeling of being alone in the forest, often with a sense of peace rather than unease. It joins the German Wald, forest, to Einsamkeit, loneliness or solitude, and Duden, the standard German dictionary, labels its use as poetic.
Where does the word waldeinsamkeit come from?
Waldeinsamkeit is a German compound word, used by the poet Heinrich Heine as early as 1851. Ralph Waldo Emerson's 1858 poem of the same name carried it into English, where it is still usually explained rather than translated in a single word.
