Drawn for the parts of the outdoors that already had a name.

Petrichor is the smell produced when rain falls on dry ground. Isabel Bear and Richard Thomas coined it in 1964 from the Greek petra, stone, and ichor, the fluid said to run in the veins of the gods. The tee prints the word over a rain cloud, with the line the smell of rain on dry earth beneath it.

Petrichor is the smell produced when rain falls on dry ground, especially after a long dry spell. It comes from the Greek petra, stone, and ichor, the fluid said to flow in the veins of the Greek gods. Dictionary.com has carried the word since the 1960s.
Where does the word petrichor come from?
Isabel Bear and Richard Thomas, two Australian scientists, coined petrichor in 1964 in a paper published in the journal Nature. They built it from the Greek petra, stone, and ichor, the fluid said to run in the veins of the gods, to name the smell released when rain meets dry ground.
